Exploring Coins

We have been learning about Canadian coins and their values. The children are learning to identify coins and count sets. Counting sets of coins is a great real-life context to use skip counting. The children are also being challenged to create different sets of coins for the same amount. You can assist you child at home by having him/her add us sets of coins, and making trades.

Race for a Dollar supports understanding and application of our base 10 number system. Children roll a die, collect pennies, and exchange them for dimes. The goal is to collect 10 to trade for a loonie.
